Waffles Strike Again

It appears that I won’t be tiring of waffles anytime soon. Possibly because they’re just so good and possibly because the toppings for them are endless. Waffles are the perfect vehicle for all sorts of goodies from fruit to chocolate to whipped cream and ice cream or even savory ventures like bacon. Waffles are made for toppings, all of those little pockets call out to be filled. Why would you want to disappoint the pockets? Why? Fill them up and keep them happy and they’ll do the same for you.

Once again I’ve used Alton Brown’s waffle recipe, it’s extremely versatile and forgiving if you substitute ingredients. I’ve played around with adding yogurt instead of buttermilk with excellent results, as well as mixing fruit into the batter. This time around I added sour cherries to the batter and then topped the waffles with a sour cherry sauce, Greek yogurt and maple syrup.

I'd show up at your house for breakfast any day of the week if you are makin' waffles like that! Ohh and as long as there'd be a side of bacon. ;)

Beautiful!! As always!!

Craving for waffles now. Too bad I don't have a waffle iron. Oh well, I'll steal it from the parents someday.

I´m also deprived of a waffle iron (and an ice cream maker), life can be so unfair sometimes, and you aren´t making it any easier with your waffle porn! :P
By the way, you should try to get hold of Dorie´s waffle book if you don´t already own it.

STOP with the maple syrup, it was perfect with the cherry sauce and Greek Yogurt!
Yes, if you don't have Dorie's waffle book you REALLY need it.

Lordy these look good!
P.S. Dorie has a waffle book?! Really?!

I am a maple syrup waffle eater. I just can't get into them with all of the other toppings. Seeing your gorgeous photos is about to make me change my mind!

That looks delicious!
Is your waffle iron a new aquisition or something you use regularly?
I am cautious about new gadgets, because I get really excited about having one, use it for a while and then it doesn't see the light off day. My ice-cream maker bucket is sitting in the freezer looking at me accusingly and my bread maker hasn't seen sunlight for a while! Seeing those photos makes me feel like I have to have a waffle iron!

The drips on my keyboard are a direct result of that last photo. Drool worthy as hell. Too beautiful!

I don't have Dorie's waffle book and I cry about it every time I make waffles. I also cry that I don't have her pancake book, and that she hasn't written an ice cream book...

Holler- I've had my waffle iron for a few months. My bread machine now resides in the basement because I like making bread by hand. My ice cream maker is in constant use, much to the dismay of my waistline. I say you can never have too many kitchen gadgets, so go ahead and buy a waffle iron, you never know when you'll need one.

Can't agree with you more, I love waffles. I like to put ice cream on mine. It gets all melty and fills the pockets. It all started when I was little and I saw the tiny scoop of butter on waffles and pancakes and I mistook them for ice cream. :D

I'm drooling right now on my keyboard. That waffle with all that fruit makes hearty breakfast!

Oh yummmm! Your waffles look fabulous. Can I come over for breakfast, please?

and just when i thought that my new kitchen gadget will solve all my needs in terms of tools, i realise that i need to get myself a waffle-maker...mmmhh!

I'm coming to your house!

Can I just say that the entire world is very happy that you're not tiring of waffles!

Oh good heavens! That looks wonderful! I was going to make cherry sauce--and use it on pancakes. Waffles are even better!

I'd like to go on record saying that I'll never tire of your waffle posts!

Can I come to breakfast too? :) I'm having breakfast right now...yogurt and honey but no waffles...so not the same!

Those are just amazing! This weekend I'll have to use that recipe but I know mine will be nowhere near as gorgeous as yours.

WOW!!!!!! Sooo delicious looking. I can almost taste them.

I adore any breakfasty cake-like item (muffins, pancakes, waffles, french toast, etc.) to be drenched in something - butter, syrup, cream, fruit, etc. so this is perfection for me.
