Technical Difficulties

Update:
Alright, the cupcakes have been made and my blog's not better. I figure I've been going about this all wrong, I should have been asking for your help. If anyone out there know how to fix any of the following problems, I would be infinitely grateful and happy to bake/cook you anything you'd like... and then I will send you a picture of it before I eat it in your honour.

-I made my own header and for a while I had it up, but now it seems to have disappeared, (or it's back, I can't keep track). I don't know why. Also, the blogger header keeps showing up below and I don't know how to hide it. And I wanted to making it so that when you click on my header it returns you to my homepage. I followed directions for a clickable photo, but it didn't get me anywhere...

-Since switching to new blogger, my pictures are all sized weird. I know in the old blogger I had to put in some code so that they were automatically resized, but I have no clue what that is now. Also, I wanted to make it so that when you click on my pictures you see an enlarged version as opposed to getting linked to the photobucket website.

-Is it possible to get rid of the arrows on the right side of my template or does that require changing templates altogether? Also, for some reason, the far righthand side of my blog looks different where my links are compared to the top and bottom, I'd like it all to be the same.

-I want to get rid of the part where it says "View My Complete Profile" and just have it say About, or even just link to my profile via my picture.

I realize this is a whole lot to ask, but if you could help me out with any of it, that would be very appreciated! I've got a million other problems if you'd like to fix those too, but how about we just start with this? Thanks.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I have no clue what I'm doing and I can't eat this disaster. I'm trying to make my blog work but I don't really know how. I'm not tech savvy. This could take a while. In the meantime, sorry about the construction zone.

Ok, so I've been working on this all morning and I feel like shooting myself in the foot. I'm going to make cupcakes. If someone could fix my blog while I'm gone, that would be super.

Hi Brilynn,
The banner looks great! Did you make those truffles?
I do some recipe testing for CI too but half the time they send me recipes for things that are impossible for me to cook (here in "sunny" England), like half a pig on the barbeque and racks of ribs. Shame, because I could chow happily on both. The muffins look scrupmtious. They remind me of those in Rebecca Rathers Pastry Queen Book (which is highly recommended if you don't already have it).

Hmm... "Construction zone" sounds like my blog, always being modified! Keep up the great work

Everything looks fine now and you are no longer "." on Bloglines, so it appears to be fixed. And may I say that your new layout looks lovely :)

I´m trying to change my layout as well, but I´m waiting till I learn enough not to mess up too much... which might take a year or so lol

Brilynn,
I love the colors! But have fun while you playing with them :D I still can't fix my header longer *grumble grumble*

I'm not positive but I think you need to put <$BlogURL$> rather than hardcoding www.jumboempanadas.blogspot.com into your template (near the top not far below </head>)

...............................
<div class='widget-content'>
<a href="<$BlogURL$>">

........................

I hope that made sense and please accept my apologies if you have done this and blogger is messing things up for you.

P.S. Otherwise, the changes are looking lovely!

Not sure what's "wrong". Maybe I missed it. I'm not sure. If it's fixed in your mind great, if not, then knowing what the problem is helps us figure out what is wrong. Thanks for the lovely blog, and the lovely food porn.

Great new look!

I really wish I knew how to help, but when it comes to computers, I'm merely competent, not actually particularly skillful. My partner, Dave, takes care of the technical aspects of my blog.

I really like your new look, though, and I am cheering you on as you clear up the bugs!

I thought maybe I'd be able to see if there were some major changes in the coding for the new blogger version and I just tried to switch my blogger blog over. For some reason I'm being told that it's not possible (no idea why... it's not that big a blog!).

I don't know exactly what it looks like in your template now but I think (I hope) this will correct your header image. Change what is between <div class='widget-content'>
<center>

and
</center>
</div>

........................
<div class='widget-content'>
<center><a href="<$BlogItemURL$>"><img border="0" alt="<$BlogTitle$>" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m153/brilynn-je/JumboEmpanadasbanner2.jpg" /></a></center>
</div>
........................

Or perhaps this if the photo bucket section is represented by the tag <$BlogOwnerPhotoUrl$> try this:
........................
<div class='widget-content'>
<center><a href="<$BlogItemURL$>"><img border="0" alt="<$BlogTitle$>" src="<$BlogOwnerPhotoUrl$>JumboEmpanadasbanner2.jpg" /></a></center>
</div>
........................

Hope that helps rather than hinders!

Hi Brilynn! Please feel free to email me via the address on my profile page if you're still having issues - my husband is currently setting up another blog and has changed everything completely, including banners and margins etc. I have no idea how he did it but he might be able to give you some advice!

I'm so glad to see that your banner is working now.

I'm not clear on whether you wanted to use thumbnails rather than large images but here is (I think) how to show a thumbnail of your wonderful venison stew that will link to the larger image of said stew:

...............................
<a href="<$BlogOwnerPhotoUrl$>venisonstewclose.jpg" target="_blank"><img border="0" alt="venison stew" src="<$BlogOwnerPhotoUrl$>th_venisonstewclose.jpg" /></a>
..............................

Alternately, if <$BlogOwnerPhotoUrl$> does NOT automatically turn into your photobucket location, then use this:

.............................
<a href="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m153/brilynn-je/venisonstewclose.jpg" target="_blank"><img border="0" alt="venison stew" src="http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m153/brilynn-je/th_venisonstewclose.jpg" /></a>
........................

Hope that makes sense and that I'm not WAY off base. If it's right, then you can use "copy and paste" for any of the other images...

-Elizabeth

P.S. Please do tell me to take a hike if this is ALL wrong.

looks like a hearty stew--fit for eating while watching one of the weekend football games! Interesting events you've entered this into. And if you have some leftovers of this or something else, please join us for Leftover Tuesdays! (details on CookingChat).

Don't know if the concept terroir could be extended a bit more to include football; our local team (the Pats) is best-suited for playing outdoors in Jan based on the environment here, but now need to play inside.

Hi Brilynn - thought I'd let you know that the blog isn't displaying correctly in Safari though it looks right in Firefox.
